The Story of how Rill's Speciality Foods Began ...
The story really began in my childhood at about age five.
When questioning my mother about the realities of life, we
were discussing forms of employment. Both sets of my grandparents
were self-employed farmers in the dry lands of Oregon and
in Kansas. My parents were also self-employed in farming,
direct sales, and a trucking business. I remember my mother
saying to me that you could probably not be happier than working
for yourself.
This planted a seed and I had always hoped that somewhere,
sometime, I would be able to work for myself. That opportunity
came in 1985 when a small grocery store became available in
Thorp, Washington. The business expanded to include a grill
and diner, Rill's Foods.
Making homemade soups every day became a way of life. Soon
people began to ask for those recipes so often, that I took
another leap of faith and began to package the soups so that
people could take them home and enjoy the same delicious soups
in the warmth of their own kitchen. These soups are sold under
the Rill's Specialty Foods label.
